In the wake of last Friday's devastating events, we've all had to do more than a bit of soul searching. At least from what I've seen on Facebook and Twitter, I can see that I'm not alone in my heartbreak and horror. Between the lines of the posts about gun control, health care reform, religion and politics resonates an intense shared sadness.
I've posted more than a few finger pointed rants myself. Mostly in effort to vent my own frustration with seeing this nightmare yet again so close to home. If anything I've written offended or upset anyone, I do apologize.
What I wish for all of us is a coming together of sorts. Finding a common grounding in our humanity and desire to protect all of our children. If you have faith, pray. If you do not, send positive thoughts and energy. Most of all, talk to each other. Hug each other. Hold hands. Laugh at stupid jokes. Cheer for your teams. Rewind the DVR to watch the best parts over and over again. Go to museums and stare at impossibly beautiful things. Make love. Dance. Read good books. Read bad books. Listen to Beethoven. Sing out loud and off key. Open your car windows on a cold night driving down the freeway with the heater turned all the way up. Play fetch with a dog. Give a ball of yarn to a kitten. Eat too much. Try that whiskey. Tell her/him you love them. Create joy. Be awake and alive. Have the best Christmas and New Year ever.
I love you for reading this.
